Names for this plant:

  • Scientific/Vitenskapelig Papaver giganteum
  • English/Engelsk Cyclops poppy
  • Norway/Norsk Opiumsvalmue

Sow 1/4 inch deep, 2-3 seeds pr inch, directly outdoors in the spring after last frost. Grows well in any well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. Do not let them dry out until they are well established. Thin to 4-6" apart, but only transplant the ones you absolutely must to prevent crowding.

Seed collection:

When pods are mature - that is, completely dry, they may be harvested. Shake seeds out and use.

Plants may require staking as seed pods become so heavy they have a tendency to fall over just before maturity.
